What's in a name?
As far as the Internet goes, everything! A Domain Name is the address
on the Internet of a site - for example to arrive at this site you
will have clicked on a link in another site or typed www.nadtechnology.co.uk
into the web browser's address bar. Thus www.nadtechnology.co.uk
is the domain name of this site.

So I Need a Domain Name?
If you want to have an Internet site, yes. Bear in mind that
once a name has been registered it is gone for good (unless the
owner forgets to pay his registration fees!). If you have a business
or family name that you would like to use as part of a current or
future Internet site, register it now before someone else does.
The number of registrations have gone up dramatically in the last
year and so the most common ones are going quickly - we would urge
you to register as soon as possible.

How Do I Choose a Name?
You can ignore the "www" at the beginning - almost
all domains names start with this (and technically it's not part
of the domain name anyway). The rest of the domain name is made
up of two parts:
The first part is best if it is a word or phrase connected with
the intended activity of the site. For example a mail order sweet
company might want to use "chocolatedirect".
The second part consists of a dot followed by several letters
or groups of letters that identify the type and possible locations
of the company or organisation involved. In the UK the most common
suffix is ".co.uk". This identifies the owner of the
domain name as being a company and based in the UK. Also common
is ".com". Again this identifies the owner as a company,
but this time trading internationally or based in the USA. Organisations
that run on a "Not For Profit" basis are encouraged
to use the ".org.uk" or ".org" suffixes instead.
Schools, the NHS and Government have special suffixes - contact
us for more details.

How Do I get One?
Firstly you need to check whether the domain name is available.
There are plenty of sites that will let you do this yourself, or
you can email us
with your domain name and we'll research it for you.

What If My Domain Name Has Gone?
You have two alternatives:
- Contact the person who owns the Domain Name and ask if it is
for sale. Bear in mind that purchasing a domain in this way will
almost certainly cost you more. Some domains have been pre-registered
and are openly for sale, others may be in use by another company
or individual.
- Use a different domain name, but try and keep it as similar
and as simple as possible. For example if www.nadtechnology.co.uk
was not available we could also have tried www.nad-technology.co.uk
or www.nadtech.co.uk.
